4WD lift kits supplied and installed in Alphington
A good lift is matched to your vehicle, its load and the way you drive—not just a number of inches. At M Carter Automotive, we review your 4WD, recommend a suitable suspension package and supporting components, then supply and install the agreed kit at our Alphington workshop.
Our main lift-kit brands are Superior Engineering and Tough Dog. We do not fit customer-supplied lift kits. Wheel alignment is included in our lift-installation quote. Fitment and Victorian road-use eligibility depend on the exact vehicle, kit, tyres and existing modifications, so contact us before ordering parts.

What’s involved in a lift installation?
A suspension lift can involve more than springs and shocks. Depending on the vehicle and package, we consider accessory weight, spring rates, control or radius arms, caster correction, steering and sway-bar components, brake-line clearance, driveline angles and suspension geometry.
We inspect the vehicle and its existing modifications before quoting. Your written quote identifies the agreed kit, any supporting parts, installation scope, wheel alignment and any engineering assessment needed. We check clearances and geometry after fitting, align the vehicle and road-test it.
Superior Engineering and Tough Dog
We supply and fit vehicle-specific packages from these two main brands. The right combination depends on your model and variant, touring or work load, towing use, current tyres and planned modifications. A brand name or advertised lift height on its own does not establish fitment or certification eligibility.
For selected vehicle and kit combinations, we can coordinate installation with a Victorian engineering assessment. Learn more about our Superior Engineering lift-kit and VASS pathway.
Real lift work from our workshop
These photographs show four builds completed at M Carter Automotive. The two GU Patrol images are different views of the same vehicle.

The GU Patrol example is one assessed vehicle, not a promise that the same kit can be certified on every Patrol. We review each vehicle’s exact variant, ESC configuration, existing modifications, tyres and proposed kit before quoting.
Wheel alignment and Victorian compliance
Changing ride height can change steering and suspension geometry. Wheel alignment is part of our quoted lift installation, with any required correction components explained up front. Our separate wheel-alignment service is also available.
Installation and certification are different services. Whether a lift or wheel-and-tyre combination needs engineering—and whether it can be certified—depends on the whole modified vehicle and the available evidence. VASS documentation is issued only when the finished vehicle meets the applicable assessment, inspection and testing requirements. Our advertised Superior Engineering high-lift Victorian pathway is limited to eligible combinations with a maximum three-inch (75 mm) suspension lift; it is not blanket approval for all kits or tyres. Read about VASS engineering certification.
How much does a 4WD lift installation cost?
Cost varies with the vehicle, kit, spring and shock choices, supporting components and any engineering work. We can prepare a complete quote after reviewing your vehicle, accessories, tyre plans and intended use. Wheel alignment is included in the lift-installation quote.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bring a kit I bought elsewhere?
No. We do not install customer-supplied lift kits. We confirm, supply and fit the agreed vehicle-specific package.
Can you install and VASS certify a Superior Engineering kit?
For selected eligible combinations, we can coordinate supply, installation and the required VASS assessment. Certification is not automatic and depends on the finished vehicle meeting the applicable requirements.
Does a lift increase my GVM or towing capacity?
No. Suspension lift, GVM, GCM and towing ratings are separate matters. An eligible GVM upgrade needs its own kit and approval pathway.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the vehicle, kit and supporting work. We’ll confirm the expected workshop time in your quote.
